Chava is a six-time Olympic coach. He represented Mexico in the sport of diving at the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games; however his career was cut short due to a shoulder injury. As a result, Chava turned to coaching and achieved success almost immediately trough becoming the Mexican National coach and producing some of the most succsessfull divers in the history of Mexican Diving.
Chava moved to Australia in 1995 and took up a position with the Australian Institute of Sport, coaching Australian athletes to the Atlanta Olympic Games. In 1997, Chava moved to Sydney to become Head Coach with the NSWIS and still holds this position.
Some of the main highlights of Chava's coaching career in Australia were:
Coached Matthew Mitcham for that unforgettable Golden Olympic Moment in which Matthew finalised his competition with that history making "perfect 10" last dive to win gold for Australia!
Coached Loudy Tourky and Rebecca Gilmore to a bronze medal in the 10m Synchronised Platform event during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. This medal was the first Australian Diving Medal in 76 years and Chava was the proud coach of both athletes.
Chava has also coached at 3 Commonwealth Games, 5 World Championships and many other international competitions.
As the Manager of Perfect 10 diving, Chava is now committed to helping each diver reach their potential and get as close as possible to that elusive "Perfect 10".
